Final Fantasy XIV is my first excursion into the massively multiplayer online role player game genre. Upon first entering the world of Eorzea I was shocked at the amount of openness that was before me and quickly became confused and lost. I searched online but could not find a suitable source of information that was quick and easy to access.

Disciples of War are practiced in the art of war and martial combat. Skilled Archers rain down destruction on their enemies from a distance with their bows. Gladiators, trained fighters in the use of single bladed weapons and combat styles, have a nearly unmatched flexibility in battle. Lancers make use of pole-arm weapons to stand at a moderate distance while engaging the enemy with powerful thrusting attacks and abilities. Marauders rely on brute strength and force to overcome their enemies with powerful attacks while Pugilists make use of a variety of hand weapons to pummel their opponents into submission.

Disciples of Magic follow the esoteric paths of conjuring and thaumaturgy to harness aether into magical attacks and restorative healing spells. Conjurers draw upon elemental forces and aether to weave powerful magic either offensive or defensive as the situation warrants. Thaumaturge disciples call upon their own inherent aether to create powerful spells capable of aiding their companions or crippling foes through the use of mediums, powerful stones set into scepters or wands.

Regarding the clans, the Elezen sees 2 clans, the Wildwood Elezen clan and the Duskwight Elezen clan. The two clans differ as such: the Wildwood Elezen are archer types whereas the Duskwight Elezen are more suitable for face to face combat and thievery.

The Lalafell also consist of 2 clans, the Plainsfolk and the Dunesfolk. The Plainsfolk basically live underground and thus have advanced sense of hearing and smell in adaptation to their environment. The Dunesfolk differ largely from the Plainsfold and spend most of their lives dwelling in the desert.

The Hyurs are split into 2 clans as well, the Midland clan and the Highlander clan. As the clan names suggest, the Highlander clan live in elevated lands and mountains and are thus naturally larger than their Midlander counterparts. The Highlanders are also often mercenaries.

The Miqo’te also comes in 2, the Seekers of the Sun and the Keepers of the Moon. Quite obviouly, the Seekers of the Sun prefer the day and warmth. They also worship Azeyma (the sun goddess). The Keepers of the Moon are a noctural clan and worship Menphina (the moon goddess).

The Roegadyn are made up of the Sea Wolves clan and the Hellsguard. The Sea Wolves are often sailors and come from islands in the north seas. The Hellsguard mostly lives in regions pron to volcanoes. Their belief is that the volcanoes are gateways to the underworld and make it their objective to prevent the dead from returning back to the land of the living.

In the Disciples of War, there are a total of five jobs currently available. Those jobs are Archer, Pugilist, Lancer, Gladiator, and Marauder. These classes have an individual weapon attributed to their job. Switching weapons will not only switch classes for the character but also to the appropriate job level. Although this switch cannot be made on the fly in battle, players can transition from one job to another by simply equipping or unequipping a weapon.

Archers are known for their skill in archery which involves the use of bows. Players will utilize long range distance to optimize their damage. The type of arrow equipped will also play a role in the type of damage to the enemy. For instance, status infliction arrows will cause a negative status when landed successfully.

The Pugilist is an older term for Boxer. In Final Fantasy XIV, Pugilist will use knuckles or bagh nak like claws. Pugilists will utilize a close range style combat, and varying stances to optimize defense or offense as the situation requires. The Lancer is a mid-ranged physical damage job that focuses on uses of polearms. Polearms are long poles with spears at the end. The position of a Lancer is key within battle. When attacking multiple enemies, the Lancer can attack a group of enemies at once if lined up properly.

The Gladiator is a tank type job found in Final Fantasy XIV which focuses on close range fighting. Equipped with a sword and shield, the Gladiator provokes the enemy to focus all of the enmity and allow others to deal damage without taking harm. The Marauder is a unique class of physical damage jobs as it is the first area of effect damage job within the Final Fantasy series. Marauder use the great axe which is a huge two handed axe. Marauder are not shy when it comes to in close combat quarters and prefer to battle large groups of enemies. When striking the enemy, all surrounding enemies feel the blow as well.

The varying factor for all Disciples of War is the distance to the enemy that is required to achieve the greatest success in combat. Players will soon realize that positioning is the key to victory in the Disciples of War.
